When is Independent Advice not Independent?

....when the advice comes from banks it would seem.

Whilst employees of high street banks may like to present themselves as Independent Financial Advisers, in reality you will be able to access only a small selection of products that are available in the market. This is simply because banks have alliances with a limited number of providers and will not market products from other providers.

A recent BBC Panorama programme also highlighted the problem of customers being sold products that simply did not stack up with those customers' attitude to risk.

Please bear in mind that although you might get a great product from a great provider from the bank's IFA, you have not received truly independent financial advice until you have spoken to a truly indpendent financial adviser.
